5 Mistakes to Avoid When Selling a Home

When living in your home for several years or more, you can often times get attached to certain things, and it’s always best to have a second set of eyes or opinion to better understand how to best position your home for sale at maximum pricing.

When in doubt, remind yourself of these Five Mistakes to Avoid when selling a home:

  1. Failing to Declutter. I’m sure your clients are nice people, but to nest is to be human.

  2. Disregarding Scale. Let’s just say maybe a three-part sectional isn’t the best option for a 130-sq. foot living room.

  3. Skimping on Lights. Lots of these high-rise condo buildings are shrouded by surrounding high-rise condo buildings, and lots of basements are, well, basement-y.

  4. Not De-Personalizing. Your clients’ clothes and knickknacks are lovely, but buyers want to envision themselves in the home.

  5. Using Too Much Color. It’s an open house, not a carnival. Too much color is overwhelming to an objective eye, so sterilizing it a bit makes it easier to digest.
