Are You Afraid of Success?

There is a common quote that folks “rise to their level of incompetency” in the job market. We’ve all seen the mid-level manager who can’t seem to get promoted to upper management, usually due to lack of skills in the sales or leadership department. Many simply never break through this barrier and live lives of quiet desperation, never truly finding success and unsure of the reason.

This gives rise to the enormous self-help industry, estimated as a roughly $11 billion marketplace. With tactics like neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) and self-image psychology, there is something out there for everyone that can and likely will work, if the individual seeks out the information. Often times you see the “successful” business professional that reaches a certain level of income, come shattering down due to poor mistakes, or self sabotage. This is due to them hitting the ceiling regarding their own self-image, at which point they subconsciously bring themselves back down to their base thermometer of how they value themselves.

There are countless visionaries and rich entrepreneurs that have continually made strides towards their businesses and continue doing so year-after-year. Think billionaires, or folks that have down all the pillars of life (health, wealth, love happiness) down better than anybody you’ve met. Chances are, they have a high level of self esteem and generally view themselves as “deserving” that success, rather than having imposter syndrome like many out there do.
