Choosing Artwork
The artwork you choose for your home can make or break the room’s aesthetic. Okay, that may be a bit dramatic, but the fact still remains- the things you adorn your walls with can have a major effect on the vibe of a space.
Personal touches are most important when considering what to hang and where to hang it. In living rooms and bedrooms especially, adding artwork or framed pictures that evoke conversation will not only make you feel more at home, but will in turn reflect that pleasant feeling onto guests.
Coordinating color is not just useful when choosing furniture, but artwork as well. Not everything should match exactly, so adding a splash of color to a wall in a room that houses predominantly greyscale accents would prevent the room from looking too museum-like. In rooms with wood furniture pieces, complementing them with black-and-white pieces of art can give the space a sleeker look. Always keep yourself and your tastes at the forefront of a design selection; if you feel comfortable, so will everyone who enters.
In many cases, there will be one specific wall in a space that is, a) abnormally tall or wide, and/or b) can’t be accented with a piece of functional furniture. Hanging a proportionately large art piece to this wall will help fill the room and become its focal point. Since this wall won’t house a couch, table, desk, etc., consider adding a bench or console centered underneath the artwork.
Including art pieces in your bathrooms is a small touch, but can also add to the tranquility of the space.
