Dressing Your Bed

Having the right sheets, duvet/comforter, pillows, and throw blanket on your bed will make or break the vibe in your bedroom. Ultimately, they all need to get you to your maximum comfort level. After all, your bedroom is your sanctuary, and your bed is where the most important part of your day occurs.

A made bed just looks better. Yes, getting into the habit of making it every time you wake up can be a pain, but you’ll thank yourself when you come home and are greeted by a tidy-looking bed and bedroom. Ideally (but certainly not necessary), this includes tucking the top sheet and comforter in with the frame of the bed. This gives the bed a neat, unwrinkled look and even makes it look bigger.

Layering is key in making your bed. Adding one color of accent pillows directly in front of your bed pillows, then adding one or two differently-colored cushion pillows in front of those will create a “casual elegance” for your bed.

Placing a soft throw or bedspread over the top of your comforter heightens the look of a bed’s comfort. Make sure not to simply fold it at the foot of the bed, but drape it over one of the bed’s bottom corners to capture that casual feel.

Lastly, make sure the colors you’re adding can coexist with the rest of the room. You don’t want your bedding and bed accessories to be in too stark contrast with the rest of your bedroom furniture.

Most of all, make it your own! This is YOUR bed we’re talking about- give it back as much energy it gives you!
