Pick Up the #$%& Phone!

This day and age, it seems like seems like technology has turned everyone into timid, socially inept weaklings that are afraid of confrontation or even basic interaction. I am often finding that folks, mostly age 20-35, would rather exchange 20 texts back and forth over the course of 48 hours, instead of having a 5 minute conversation on the phone. Not only is this phenomenon crushing productivity in society, but it’s causing a great deal of passive aggressive behavior.

Think about how often you spend on your phone checking your text messages from clients, friends, family, and spouse. It is probably several times a day for each one of those buckets, which takes valuable time away from areas that you are striving (hopefully) to be productive in.

Now, to the passive aggressive behavior… too often folks are discussing important topics and areas where confrontation is necessary, and shying behind the screens of their phones typing away. This has a negative effect on building your confidence, as you are actively avoiding the confrontation or conversation verbally, and putting into text format. How can the person on the receiving end judge how serious you are? Also, how worthless is your time to type of 3 paragraphs of passive aggressive mumbo jumbo? Seriously, get a life.

I digress, as this is my vent for the week. Next time you’ve got something serious to discuss or need to save some time: dial the number, hit call, and use your big girl voice to get your point across.
