The Weather Outside is Frightful

Well, we almost escaped the winter without brutal temperatures here in Chicago. Other than December’s short snowstorm, it has been relatively mild. Today is the first day with below zero temperatures, and it sure makes getting out and about more difficult. Luckily, the real estate market is off to a strong start and buyer activity seems to be in strong demand.

With inventory finally rising in Chicago since the pandemic, we are seeing a flurry of activity, even in the downtown market. This could be good news that even despite a looming recession, real estate is on the rebound and supply and demand in the market seem to be shaking out.

Typically, activity doesn’t start begin until after the Super Bowl - coined “spring market”. I don’t know if this was manipulated by brokers in the past few decades to convince sellers to list even in slows times, but last time I checked, spring doesn’t start until the groundhog sees his shadow (i.e. March 20th). Heck, I don’t care, as long as the seasonality is smoothed out and business is more normalized in these cold months. All we can do is plug along in these freezing temperatures and make things happen, while avoiding frostbite in the process.
