Book Review: The Go Giver
To continue with my book reviews, I had the pleasure of reading The Go Giver by Bob Burg. In my quest for understanding human psychology and sales/marketing, this one hit the nail on the head. There were plenty of “Aha!'“ moments that sparked some great ideas.
Burg’s book centers on a young man named Joe that is a salesman struggling to land a big account to meet his quarterly sales quote. In his search for information, Joe reaches out to an infamous business “guru” to find the answers o his sales problems. Upon meeting with the guru on a daily basis for 1 week, Joe learns the real key in sales is building relationships.
The overarching theme of the book is that your ultimate success in business and networking is about how much you GIVE to others. It is a fascinating concept that many would benefit from exploring. Think about the most well-connected person you know. Are they someone who constantly takes from others? It’s highly unlikely. More than likely, they are constantly giving to others in the form of connections, information, gifts, etc.
Think about your favorite customers, clients, vendors… When is the last time you really gave them something that they would benefit from?
