Decorating with Live Plants
Decorating a home with live plants has several benefits; they do anything from simply brightening up a room to literally increasing its oxygen flow. Keeping plants alive, however, is the biggest challenge homeowners face when populating their spaces with them.
This may seem obvious, but using outdoor plants in indoor spaces is the most common mistake homeowners can make in plant-buying. The average homeowner would probably identify as novice a plant caretaker, so inadvertently choosing a high-maintenance plant and having it die within weeks is frustrating. Rest assured, there are several easier options homeowners have in decorating with plants.
Pothos (or ivy-like) plants are one of the least needy selections you can make for a home. They make it very clear when they are being over and under-watered by the changing of their leaf color. Pothos plants quite literally thrive on neglect, so homeowners can rely on them to work their magic in a home without constant fussing. Pothos plants’ cascading leaves also ensure homeowners aren’t getting a boring addition to their spaces.
Zanzibar, or ZZ plants are another basic, yet tasteful choice for a houseplant. They have uniquely wide leaves that reflect both natural and artificial light, while also containing growth within a three-foot circumference. ZZs are very low-maintenance that even the most novice plant caretaker can successfully sustain.
Spider and snake plants are two more compact options for low or artificially lit spaces. Snake plants are succulent-adjacent, meaning they need very little interference in terms of care. Spider plants are similar to ferns in appearance, but certainly not in terms of care. Ferns are beautiful, yet complicated outdoor plants that homeowners commonly get in over their heads with, but a spider plant can fulfill that fern-urge with almost none of the care ferns require.
If you’re looking for an easy plant that features flowering, peace lilies are a great option. Peace lilies will only bloom in indirect or artificial light, so just avoid hiding them away in bathrooms or basement spaces. Another terrific option for the brownest of thumbs, keeping up with recommended watering is the most homeowners will need to do for these plants.
