Monet Would Be Impressed
Wall accents make or break a room. Whether you choose to take a minimalist or maximalist approach, making sure people see your pictures is the most important thing. Ultimately, you’re trying to give your space a focal point and a place for the wandering eye to rest.
Museum height- remember that. Unless your wall piece is above a particularly large furniture item, hanging it right at eye-level of an average height person (5’6-5’7) is key. Now, of course, layering your artwork on the wall is necessary. If you choose to hang multiple pieces on a single wall, feel free to mix up the heights at which they hang, but remember to make the center of the vignette eye-level.
Mixing in items with different shapes and sizes gives a room more movement and depth, not to mention it generates more interest from the people inside. Make sure the spacing between each piece is equal, as this creates balance between pieces. You want your “gallery wall” to look organized while also remaining unique and full of personality.
If you’re working from a expansive wall and only have a few pieces to fill it, don’t panic and spread them out too far. Remember, your gallery always has room to grow. Hang your existing pieces near each other so that you leave room for your expanding collection.
