Nice Curves!

Curved furniture has never been hotter. Why? Aside from the very height of COVID, people have never spent this much time inside. And when you’re at home, you want to feel comfortable and relaxed, no?

The human eye is proven to be inherently drawn to rounder, circular shapes. Non-sharp edges bring a softer feel into a space, offsetting square or straight edges. According to a study published in the National Library of Medicine, the brain’s amygdala- which produces feelings of fear and anxiety- was triggered far less when presented with round visuals compared to its spike when shown sharp visuals.

Incorporating curvier elements is not limited to just the furniture itself. Arranging your round furniture in a similarly round manner creates a welcoming, inclusive conversation area where no one has to crane their neck to be a part of the group. Curved furniture placements can also create an equidistant, centralized meeting point, giving everyone access to whatever is in the middle.

Rounded items also have a way of making a room look fancier, if you can believe it. Straight lines are uninteresting and uninspiring. Curvy shapes add depth, piquing the interest of the eye and adding intrigue into the space.

Adding plush pillows to your more linear furniture is a good strategy when buying new, round stuff is not an option. Not only are most accent pillows rounded off, they are also cozy-looking. With straight-edged couches and accent chairs, pillows can be positioned in a 90-degree inner corner so as to deflect from the piece’s boxy nature.
