Tuck Away Those Eyesores

The easiest way to get common household eyesores out of sight is to just hide them in a closet or push them so far under a table you forget they exist, right? Sure, but this is also the laziest way. Internet modems, desktop computer riggings, TV cables, litter boxes, pet bowls, vents, and radiators are several common eyesores homeowners struggle with as they try to decorate their spaces. Hiding them or even disguising them isn’t as hard or expensive as you think it is, either.

Let’s talk electricity. We need it, gotta have it, can’t live without it. Especially as the business world shifts to more work-from-home platforms, home offices with one or more desktop computers are staples in many homes. And where there are computers, there must also be internet modems. And where there are modems, there must also be wires & cables. And where there are wires & cables- well, you get where this is going. Power strips where several things are plugged in can be placed inside a tasteful box that accommodates feeding wires through either side. A desktop computer’s mess of cables can be condensed and organized into drawers or baskets that either attach or sit under your desk. Modems or routers that tend to be strewn about on the floor can be placed inside a unique box or drawer without interrupting your internet connection.

Pets are cute, cuddly, and very much key members of the household. They do, however, present a challenging hurdle in interior design. Kitty litter boxes are not only unsightly, but also occasionally smelly. An easy fix is to put the litter box inside a sleek cabinet specifically made for housing them. With this, you can also accessorize the top of the cabinet and make it another utilitarian surface.

Vents and radiators are the trickiest eyesores, namely because you can’t cover them up or move them at all. A simple solution is to paint the appliance in the same color as the walls. This will help blend it in more to the room and its aesthetic. Radiator covers do exist, but make sure that it not only matches your style, but also allows for plenty of ventilation.
